The Phoenix NewTimes recently reported that 45-year-old Tempe Criminal Defense Attorney, John Keith Vigileos, was arrested in the early morning hours of April 23rd after a series of events having to do with the alleged sexual molestation of his12 year-old step-daughter at his home. Mr. Vigileos and his estranged wife had shared custody of the victim as well as the woman’s 9-year old son and 5-year old daughter. He now faces extremely serious charges that could land him in prison for decades.
According to reports, all three kids were present at Mr. Vigileos’ residence when the 12-year-old girl called her mother at around 2:00 a.m. on April 23rd to report that Mr. Vigileos had “touched her inappropriately.” She indicated that Mr. Vigileos performed oral sex on her, touched both her breasts and vagina with his hand and forced her to touch his penis. The girl’s mother drove to Vigileos’ home to get the other children in the household who were there alone before finding herself back at her Gilbert apartment where she got a phone call from her ex before reporting the situation to the police.
Mr. Vigileos called Gilbert police to self-surrender but then apparently attempted to commit suicide by cutting his left wrist and stabbing himself in the stomach with a knife. He was not seriously injured. The criminal defense lawyer later went on to twice confess to police without even invoking his Miranda rights to self-incrimination. According to police, his own description of the nature of the sexual acts that allegedly took place between him and the 12-year-old victim corroborate.
It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. For more information about sex crimes and other news cases in Arizona, please contact the criminal defense attorneys at Alcock and Associates at 602-989-5000. We handle cases throughout Arizona.
