Here’s another story that makes you shake your head. Yet another sports figure is imperiling his future with a DUI arrest. Stanford football player Shayne Skov was recently arrested for a DUI offense in California. Last weekend, the football player was booked for DUI as he returned home to his dorm room.
This incident highlights how costly a DUI can be for some. Mr. Skov has had a run of very bad luck recently. He suffered a devastating injury to his knee during the UA game. This took him out of contention for the NFL draft.
Now with a possible DUI conviction in his future, his potential draft status will suffer even further. There is no question that teams will shy away from a player if they think that they have drug or alcohol issues.
I’m not jumping to any conclusions about Mr. Skov, but my advice to him is to quickly resolve the charges. It will not benefit him to have multiple court appearances and a high-profile DUI trial. The amount of money on the line for him is just too great.
As a DUI attorney, my inclination is to fight every case to the last. But in this type of case, he may want to accept responsibility quickly. I’m sure his DUI lawyer will quickly assess the case. If it appears that there is little likelihood of winning, my bet is that you will see a quick change of plea.
Other considerations include community service, and alcohol classes. Mr. Skov should show that he will handle the matter as an adult. I hope that things get better for him soon. As an ASU fan, this doesn’t mean that I want him to do better against the Sun Devils.
