5 Things That Will Happen If You Are Arrested for Arizona DUI

1. Arrest
   • After being pulled over on suspicion of DUI in Arizona, an officer will either determine you are sober or will conduct a variety of tests to determine if you are driving under the influence. Whether or not these tests are accurate or will hold up in a court of law is not important at this stage.  What is important to understand is that if an officer determines you are under the influence, you will be arrested for DUI.
2. Booking
   • After you have been arrested you will be taken to the police station and booked into the local jail. Typically, you will be released soon after.
3. Charges That Follow Arrest
   • Even if you are released (which is most likely) after you have been booked, you will still face Arizona DUI charges. All information pertinent to your case, including your blood alcohol test will be given to the prosecutor that will determine what charges are appropriate in your case.  You will be charged and assigned a court date and time to attend for your case.  If you have not yet – hire an experienced Arizona DUI attorney!
4. DUI Court Proceedings
   • When you go to court for your DUI case it is incredibly important that you are represented by an experienced and knowledgeable DUI attorney. You will be arraigned and the preliminary hearing will take place.  The trial will take place, the jury will deliberate, and finally you will be sentenced.  If you have an attorney you may be able to avoid most of the court proceedings if they are able to get your case dismissed or work on a deal to avoid the courtroom and potential jail time.  If you do go to court you want a vigilant and aggressive attorney that will give you the best chance at winning your case.
5. Motor Vehicle Division (MVD)
   • After all aforementioned steps have occurred an MVD hearing will take place separately. This hearing will determine whether or not your driver’s license gets suspended.
