What Happens in Weapons Charges Cases

The right to carry arms is a right that is legally protected under federal law but that does not mean that you cannot be accusedshutterstock_252500452 of weapons charges or have your right to carry weapons revoked.  Misconduct involving weapons is a wide umbrella charge and that means that a person can be charged with it for a wide variety of reasons.  For example, a weapons charge could be brought for something like carrying a weapon without the proper permit or for something like assault with a deadly weapon – the range is huge.  If convicted of weapons charges, an individual faces heavy penalties and possibly even jail time.  When you are facing weapons charges it is imperative that you hire an experience attorney who will work to achieve the best possible outcome.

It is important to note that a weapons charge can be brought against you not just for carrying a deadly weapon but for what is deemed to be a prohibited weapon that is illegal to possess in the State of Arizona.  The list of deadly and prohibited weapons includes things like shotguns, grenades, bombs, rockets, nunchaku, firearms, knives, swords, brass knuckles, tire irons, and more.  Further, if you have been convicted of a felony or are on probation as a result of a domestic violence conviction, or an undocumented or nonimmigrant alien, you are prohibited from possessing deadly or prohibited weapons.  Any misconduct involving weapons is a Class 4 Felony in Arizona so it is important to take this very seriously.  If convicted, there may be very harsh penalties or significant prison time so an aggressive attorney is a must.  Your attorney will be able to assist you in negotiating and obtaining a plea deal, reducing a plea deal, or working to get the case dismissed altogether.  At Alcock Law, we have a very experienced staff including former prosecutors and a former police officer so not only do we know the law inside out, but we have a better understanding how they will approach your case.  While every case is different, we will work with you to understand exactly what happened and fight for your rights. We can help you craft the kind of strong defense that you need to obtain the best possible outcome in your weapons case.
