George Zimmerman has a $9,000 bond?

George Zimmerman was rearrested the other day. He was arrested for aggravated assault for allegedly pointing a gun at at his girlfriend. This seems somewhat obvious. But the question on everybody’s mind is, “How could he get such a low bond?”

In Arizona, there are plenty of people in jail who are held non-bondable for pretty petty and non-violent offenses. So how is it in Florida that George Zimmerman is walking free pending his trial?

It’s for two reasons. 1) He was never convicted of a felony before. He won, remember? 2) He is innocent before proven guilty, so there is a presumption that he should be free. 3) That’s how some things go. Some judges allow criminal defendants to get low bonds.
