HOW MUCH SHOULD AN ARIZONA DUI LAWYER COST ME?

Posted by Phoenix DUI Attorney Nick Alcock:

This is not only a great question, it’s an important one. If the police recently arrested you for DUI in Arizona you are likely very anxious about how a conviction will affect the rest of your life. Depending on the severity of the charge, you could be facing everything from hefty fines, loss of your driver’s license and possible jail time. You probably also realize that you have some expenses ahead of you. A legal bill is one of them. You should not face the criminal justice system alone. It does not exist to work in your favor. Therefore, you need a criminal lawyer to give you the best possible representation. But if you’ve never hired a lawyer before, you may not know how much one costs.

Alcock & Associates can help. Call today at 602-989-5000.

Typically, the top DUI lawyers out there will charge more than new lawyers with lesser skills or reputations. However, there are some good DUI attorneys charging less than some inexperienced ones. For this reason, price alone should not be your main criteria when selecting an attorney to represent you. As a general rule, when it comes to legal representation, you should not expect anything for free. Busier and more experienced lawyers may charge more for their time. However, this doesn’t necessarily translate into a bigger bill. Knowledgeable attorneys who frequently represent clients charged with DUI may be more efficient with their time. You may, in fact, pay less overall in the hands of an experienced attorney. Also, you should expect to pay more for a second offense than a first. You should expect to pay more for a felony DUI than for a misdemeanor.

How much a DUI attorney should cost largely depends on that lawyer’s billing practices. There are basically three different types for DUI attorneys. There is the hourly fee which allows the lawyer to bill their clients by the hour. It might seem that it is a more affordable way to proceed. However, be aware that if the attorney bills for travel, a typical DUI can get very costly. Other lawyers charge flat fees. Flat fees enable the client to know in advance how much the services are. Again, however, look out for additional fees. Some lawyers charge a flat, all-encompassing fee. Other charge an additional fee for trial.

The fee agreement should not be confusing to the potential client. My advice is that if you don’t understand what you are getting into, it might be time to speak with a different person. In my years of practice, I think it is best to be as up front as possible. Our DUI firm charges flat fees with no hidden costs for trial. Everything is written down in clear and simple language.
