NFL STAR BEGINS LEGAL DEFENSE TO CLEAR HIS NAME

A lawyer says the Class A misdemeanor facing his star client never should have happened. He claims the Minnesota Vikings tailback did not resist arrest and was struck by police for “no legitimate reason” during his weekend arrest. While that remains to be seen, Adrian Peterson was in fact arrested in Houston over the weekend and charged with resisting arrest after allegedly shoving and yelling at an off-duty officer at a nightclub. Peterson is vehemently denying the charges. When it comes to exonerating himself and publicly clearing his once unblemished name, he is not messing around. He immediately hired high-profile criminal defense attorney Rusty Hardin who recently represented former pro baseball player Roger Clemens in his federal perjury trial. You might recall that Clemens was victorious in beating his charges. In defending Peterson, Hardin says his client was in fact the victim, not the aggressor, in the incident which led to his arrest.

According to a Houston police spokesperson, Peterson was at a downtown nightclub when an off-duty officer working security began to clear the club because it was closing. Peterson reportedly wanted a drink of water before leaving, shouting allegedly ensued, and Peterson was taken into custody. The Texas native was charged with resisting arrest. He was released a few hours later on $1,000 bond.

Peterson’s father, Nelson, told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Peterson did not push the officer and was the subject of “vulgar language” and “disrespect.”

Following the verbal altercation, the officer allegedly told Peterson he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. Peterson began yelling, pulled away and ”assumed an aggressive stance” so another off-duty officer came to help. Peterson continued to struggle with them both. The 27-year-old player was finally handcuffed with the help of a third off-duty officer. Peterson complained of shortness of breath after he was taken to a Houston jail and was examined by Houston Fire Department personnel, who said that he was OK.

It is now a matter for the courts to impartially review the facts of the case and determine if Peterson indeed has the truth on his side.
