VIRGINIA MAN EXTRADITED BACK TO ARIZONA TO FACE SEX CASE CHARGES

Posted by Phoenix Sex Crimes Attorney Nick Alcock:

Arizona authorities are accusing a Virginia man of allegedly attempting to have an electronic sexual relationship with what he thought was a teen girl. But Phoenix Police Detectives say the suspect was actually unwittingly communicating with a task force member.

43-year-old Daniel J. Courtney has been extradited to Phoenix to face charges in this sexual exploitation case and has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail. He’s being held on suspicion of numerous counts of luring and aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation.

In August and September of 2011, Phoenix Police Detectives from the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted an investigation that brought them to Courtney. During their investigation, Courtney reportedly started an online relationship with a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force who was pretending to be a 14-year-old girl.

During the course of the relationship, Courtney used sexually explicit language and exposed himself on numerous occasions. He also allegedly propositioned the undercover officer for sex. Detectives subsequently traveled to Virginia and spoke with Courtney, who admitted to his alleged behavior. Authorities went on to secure an indictment charging Courtney with luring and aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office had Courtney arrested in Chantilly,Virginia, and he was extradited to Phoenix by the U.S. Marshal Service.

It is not immediately known whether Courtney has legal representation yet for his case.
